Definitely one of the highlights of Sixtoo’s set on Friday was him playing Rjd2’s “Here’s What’s Left” track. Sooo good.

Yeah so the weekend was the end of my brackets. I was ok until Saturday/Sunday when almost all of the #1 seeds fell, which is of course the opposite of what I predicted. My dreams of becoming the NCAA prediction guru must be put aside for another year. Ah well, this lets me enjoy the remaining games, and they should be great! My new prediction to take it all – Kansas over Syracuse. This will be my last March Madness update, but I may mention whether I watched the games or not.
I think this song is my new “Pyramid Song”. It has that ethereal quality to it.
So somehow
Dan found the new Radiohead album. It’s located on a very fast server, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to post the location here. I have no clue how they managed to get a pre-release copy like this, but I’m listening to it now and so far, I’m pretty impressed. This means I don’t have to wait until June 9th to hear it.
Well I’m just about to get some sleep, but I figured I’d update this first.
I went to Amon Tobin on Friday. He was at the Trasheteria in Guelph. Guelph of all places! It was a very cool show, the opening acts were Notorious W.I.G. and Sixtoo. Sixtoo definitely rocked the house, he played some awesome hip hop tracks. W.I.G. pulled some surprise tracks, like the London Funk Allstars, which made my day even though I don’t know if many people know who they are. We were in the alley beside the Trash before the show and it was your typical alley – drugs, condoms, garbage, and a half-full bottle of Colt 45. Yep, quite the sight. I was pretty tired by the time we got home, but it was well worth it because Amon Tobin put on a wicked set again. It was packed up near the dancing.
Rest of the weekend? Well it was mostly work. I neglected to email certain people, in particular
you and for that I apologize. I will get around to it, I promise. I’m going home this week from Tuesday through Thursday. It’s been way too long although it’s probably going to be insane with the house for sale right now. I still can’t believe we’re moving in a couple of months. Oh man, it’s April tomorrow. Yikes!
It looks like we are actually going to Europe after exams finish, the wheels have finally started moving on that front. We have a lot of inertia in this house.
My neck is still sore from Friday night when I was sitting up on the ledge. Hopefully a nice night’s sleep will help that.
I think that’s all I want to say for now, time to get some rest.
I spent 13 hours in the computer lab today and we’re not even done our project yet. I hate learning tools and languages we’re never going to use again (in this case it’s Expect). This week has much less due than before, it seems like everything is now due April 1st (no joke), but knowing us we’ll probably have everything done well in advance. That’s our style, you know. Ah well, at least I’ll have Amon Tobin to relax with on Friday night. I still can’t believe he’s coming to Guelph of all places. Anyway, enough computer time for me, it’s bed time.
This is a very interesting read, I encourage you to read and think about the parallels to the present.
6-2 today, bringing me to 35-13 overall, which is a damn good winning percentage, if you ask me. I underestimated Butler and Auburn today, but other than that, I have 11 out of the 16 teams I picked to be in the Sweet Sixteen and everything beyond that is still intact. This is the last March Madness-related update until Thursday when the next round of games takes place. This is fine because this is going to be one work-filled week. I shudder to think about it, but on the bright side it is my last week of school ever (for the forseeable future anyway).
5-3 yesterday, bringing me to 29-11. Games I missed were Notre Dame-Illinois, Wisconsin-Tulsa, Arizona State-Kansas. I didn’t get to watch many games, but I still sought out the scores when I got home.
Hot Radiator to Jon, but there’s no way he reads this, so I’m just doing this for my own enjoyment.
Well I did better yesterday than on Thursday. I went 13-3, giving me a 24-8 record overall. The only troublesome result was the St. Joseph’s game, since I predicted them to get to the Sweet 16. Nail-biters for me last night were the Maryland and Butler games, who I picked to win. Maryland won with a wild 3-pointer with no time left and Butler won with a jump shot with 6.2 seconds to go. You can’t help but love this tournament.
Tonight is going to be fun, it’s our Gradball which is a big formal event for the graduating engineers. I’ll remember to bring my camera.
After Day One of March Madness, I’m 11-5, which isn’t too bad I think. I picked all of the upsets, but I was a bit too optimistic on other possible upsets. Most teams that I picked as upsettors (Southern Illinois, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, San Diego, NC State, Weber State) at least made good showings and didn’t lose by too much. I’m fairly confident in my picks for tomorrow too, but we’ll have to see where the ball falls.
So it’s March Madness time around here, and boy am I excited! I wait all year for these 3 weeks. The first couple of days are some of the most interesting to watch because you have at least 3 games going on at once. I’ve filled out my brackets, but I doubt that I’ll be able to predict amidst all of the chaos. It’s going to be hard to get TV time around here with other important things on, but hopefully I’ll get enough coverage.
I’m really hooked on this song this week. I’ve heard it on the radio a lot over the past couple of weeks. I watched the video (RealVideo) today and it was extremely touching and saddening. He juxtaposes pictures of himself now with old footage. For some reason it’s very endearing, but nostalgic songs/videos like that always seem to effect me. I guess I wonder whether he’s really happy with the way his life has turned out. I think that’s probably one of my biggest fears. I’m sure I’ll be satisfied though, but I’ll post here in 50 years to let everyone else know.
I haven’t done one of these in a while, and I’ve acquired massive amounts of music recently. Warning, it is quite a big list.

Surprises in there? Well the amount of Johnny Cash stuff surprised me. The new Four Tet (Rounds) and Prefuse 73 (One Word Extinguisher) albums are amazing. Also ?uestlove’s compilation is a good dose of 70’s soul. Anything by Gilles Peterson makes my day. I’m liking the new Tosca disc(s), the tracks on the second disc remind me a lot of early Brian Eno. The Majesticons album is amusing as is the Little Brother and The Streets material. All in all though, a fine collection, definitely varied. I’m loving my music right now.
Yeah I’ve been neglecting this here journal for too long. I have too much to say and this does provide a nice conduit for my thoughts.
The Microsoft interviews were interesting. It was definitely the most grueling set of interviews I’ve ever gone through. That whole 3-day period was insane what with the snowstorm, reviewing my notes, time change, stress, and getting sick when I got back. Unfortunately the whole process didn’t turn out as positively as I had hoped, but that’s ok, that particular door isn’t closed to me yet. In the mean time, I’m looking at other opportunities. Hopefully this particular chapter ends well.
The weekend I came back, I went to Windsor for a weekend, had some fantabulous food, met some wonderful people and generally had a great time. Also I went to the Black Forest coffee house at St. Paul’s. It was very entertaining, though I was pretty tired with jet lag by the end of the night.
Last week I got most of my midterms back. Let’s just say that I’ll be doing better on my finals. Enough said on that topic.
It was Andy’s birthday on the weekend, so we went out Saturday night for that. Fun times indeed. Yesterday Ed and I went to Paddy Flaherty’s (sounds better with an Irish accent) and were drunk by 6. That was fun, especially playing drinking games and watching everyone get absolutely tanked.
The next week and a half are going to be crazy, with work to plow through. I can’t believe it’s basically the end of the term now, a month from now and I’ll be done university. Expect lots of gloating then.
In order to someday reintegrate ourselves into society, we’ve started a vulgar jar at our house. Every Tuesday and Thursday, if anyone says something vulgar, they have to pay 10 cents. We don’t actually have a jar, it’s just a paper with columns for each of us. When an offence has been committed, we put a tick mark under their name. It’s a big competition to see who will have the most ticks by the time we’re through. Andy’s already discovered that he has much less to say now. He said that he’ll just have to skew his vocabulary slightly to avoid the rules. A representation of our jar is found here.
So I leave for Seattle tomorrow afternoon. I interview on Thursday and then come back home on Friday. It’s going to be a grand old time, for sure. However, it seems that Mother Nature is making things a tad more complicated. We’re supposed to get a major snowstorm tonight which is predicted to leave 15 to 30 cm of fresh white snow on the ground by tomorrow morning. Hooray! I couldn’t ask for a better start to tomorrow. I just hope that it isn’t that bad getting to Toronto. Oh well, whatever happens will happen. I can’t change the weather…yet.
I saw a flyer at school yesterday for a trip organized by Breakaway Tours to the Winter Music Conference in South Beach. That would be one sweet trip and it’s relatively cheap ($199) but I don’t think I can take the time off of school to attend. Plus I’d miss out on a lot of good concerts that week, and that would truly be a travesty.
Hmm, maybe I should do some laundry before I leave tomorrow. It might be nice to have some clothes to wear while I’m there.
Ok, how about some pictures! A lot of these will look weird at first sight, but there is an accompanying story. I just wanted to put the pictures up first and then explain them later (though not tonight). So without further delay, may I present my latest photo galleries:
So…I am in fact alive. I know some people were wondering if I had given up on this. Well, the answer is no. I’ve just been incredibly busy with various activities that I hope to discuss over the next little while. Right now I want to talk about the movie we watched in class tonight – Hiroshima, mon amour. What an incredible film. I remember Kim saying that she didn’t like this movie, but I for one really loved it. It’s so deep and had an incredible amount to say about love and war and society. I was taking notes in class because there were so many good points that I wanted to remember but at the same time I didn’t want to miss anything. The quality of the print was awful to say the least and I felt sorry for anyone who couldn’t understand French because the subtitles were extremely hard or impossible to read. Even when you could read them, the translation was atrocious. Elle spoke so poetically and the lilt of her speeches was lost in English. I guess that’s why French is a romance language and English isn’t. I wonder if this movie is available on DVD because I would really like to watch it again. The images of Hiroshima were very troublesome and often I wonder how we could cause that much damage. The more I think about it, the scarier the idea becomes.
i guess i should preface this all with this statement: this isn’t matt. this is marcy. i guess i’m
the interesting girl he met a few weeks ago. since then, matt managed to find my email address,
ask me out, and completely sweep me off my feet.
it took him a while to tell me about his journal keeping. for some reason, he thought i would find it odd. i don’t
know why. i understand the reason and compulsion to put your thoughts to paper, or in this case, some form of
html ( i only know one code, and it’s not known well. did matt mention i was the artsie in this relationship?)
interesting to note what he wrote about on certain days.
i haven’t read his whole journal. but i do know that matt tends to keep some things locked up, and i’m feeling
rather honoured that he handed me this particular key. in some ways, i keep parts of myself locked up, too. we
all do. i think that everyone’s secret dream is to find someone who’s worthy of handing the key over to, and someone
who’s willing to unlock that particular box. years ago, my nanny gave me a ring that her mother had given her.
it’s a silver ring, with a lock and key. she made me promise to give it to someone who was able to unlock my heart.
while we may not all have something as tangible as that, i imagine that we all have something that represents that. here’s to hoping
you all find someone as wonderful as matt to hand that key over to.
-marce
ps. matt is a control freak, for your information. but he’s pretty cute, so i’ll overlook it. maybe not.
