Our new car - hopefully

So as I mentioned on Friday Marcy and I bought a new car.

Marcy got the insurance arranged for the new car on Friday. Saturday afternoon we had an appointment at the bank. I’m still amazed that the bank has hours on Saturday. It goes to show you how unusual that is these days. We arrived a little late but not by too much. We talked with Lloyd (the assistant manager for the branch) and showed him our documentation. He went about processing the information on their computer application. He didn’t really seem to know what he was doing; he went through the same process a few times without giving a different result. We knew that he had to put the car as collateral on the loan but I guess when I applied over the phone they put it down as a 2002 car instead of the 2001 that we bought. He looked up the black book value of the car and that gave a really low figure. He seemed really confused at this point so he called through to the internal customer support line and they had to walk him through what to do. Meanwhile Marcy and I didn’t know what was going on at this point and so we sat there anxiously awaiting his “yea” or “nay” on the status of the loan.

Eventually he got something completed and he was able to print off the forms for us to sign (there’s always a lot of them). He said that he wouldn’t be there on Monday and it wouldn’t be sent out on the internal mail until Monday morning and not arriving at the reviewing department until Monday night. He said he’d feel more comfortable if we made the withdrawal from our account on Tuesday so that if anything went wrong he’d be there to help. We said that’s ok with us as long as it’s ok with the dealer. As I went to get the car Marcy called the dealer and he was pretty snippy about delaying it a day. He said they were hoping for the check to be in before month end and asked if we could give them a personal check instead. Um, if we’re going to the bank for a loan I don’t think we have that amount at our disposal in our personal savings accounts. Just a thought. I figure it’s good retribution – they weren’t really willing to negotiate further with us and so we’re not making it any easier for them to get their money.

[Crossing fingers] We’ll have the car tomorrow.
